Article 76 of the Forest Law of the People's Republic of China stipulates that those who illegally cut trees shall be ordered by the forestry competent department of the people's government at or above the county level to replant trees that are more than twice but less than five times the number of illegally cut trees in their original place or in another place within a specified time limit, and shall be fined five times but less than ten times the value of illegally cut trees. Those who indiscriminately cut down trees shall be ordered by the forestry department of the people's government at or above the county level to replant trees that are more than twice but less than three times the number of indiscriminately cut trees in their original location or in another place within a specified period of time, and may be fined more than three times but less than five times the value of the indiscriminately cut trees.
